Who Needs Sanctions If You Have Groggers?

White supremacist David Duke and the international Jewish campus organization Hillel each ushered in Purim with a message painting this year’s celebration as a time to worry about Iran. For Hillel, this meant setting up a Web site that portrayed Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, as a modern-day Haman. The site featured groggers drowning out his anti-Israel and Holocaust-denying proclamations.

Your favorite one-time Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard, on the other hand, was insisting on his daily audio message that “extremist Jews” were bent this year on carrying out “a new Purim massacre.” Duke’s take on the holiday: “Purim is the Jewish celebration of the murder of the Persian prime minister Haman for supposedly plotting a conspiracy against the Jews.”

Supposedly!?!

That’s a first… Purim denial. To be fair, Duke appears to believe all the stuff in Megillat Esther about the Jews killing their enemies. It’s just the bad stuff about Haman that he seems to reject.
