Reports: Obama To Send Ambassador to Syria

President Obama will send a U.S. ambassador back to Syria, according to reports.

CNN reported Tuesday night that a senior Obama administration official said the U.S. would send an ambassador to Syria for the first time in four years.

“It’s in our interests to have an ambassador in Syria,” a senior administration official told CNN Tuesday night, the cable network first reported on its Web site. “We have been having more and more discussions, and we need to have someone there to engage.”

No one specific has been chosen for the post, according to the report.

The United States withdrew its ambassador to Syria four years ago in protest of Syria’s alleged involvement in the assassination of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
