O.U. Cooks Up New Show

The Orthodox Union’s stamp of approval makes its way onto thousands of products on grocery store shelves, and now the ubiquitous kosher certifier is testing the waters in the entertainment industry.

The organization is launching a kosher cooking show on its Web site (www.ou.org), and it hopes to eventually air the show on major television networks. The details of a possible TV show seem hazy at best. The O.U.’s media sales director, Barry Mase, told The Shmooze that they’re still “in negotiations” with Jewish Life TV, the new 24-hour Jewish television channel. But Mase said that the O.U.’s Web series is set to launch just before the High Holidays.

The first eight segments, each four to five minutes long, will be hosted by food writer and Food Network producer Jamie Geller, author of the forthcoming cookbook “Quick & Kosher — Recipes From the Bride Who Knew Nothing.” The show will demonstrate recipes made with — what else? — O.U.-certified products, of course!
