No Lobbying Involved

Thank you for highlighting in a September 16 article the efforts of the Jewish Federations of North America and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to assist non-profits and Jewish institutions as they protect themselves in the post-9/11 reality, in which they have become targets of terrorists.

It is worth noting that every grant decision made by the government on this program is made by local and national law enforcement personnel, based solely on an analysis of the “threat-level” of each requesting institution, in compliance, according to DHS, with the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations.

Politics and lobbying do not impact the decision-making of Homeland Security officials in any way. The public record on Jewish communal vulnerability is significant and disturbing, and we are pleased that we can be a leading part of an initiative that raises awareness, promotes vigilance and hardens targets within the Jewish community.
