NEWS ITEM: In a televised report entitled “Sacred Vows, Secret Affairs,” CBS News uncovered a surprising degree of sexual immorality in New York’s ultra-Orthodox community, a group famously known for high standards of righteous behavior. Cited as one causative factor was the prevalence of pre-arranged marriage, causing unhappy spouses to seek fulfillment elsewhere.
Ingesting too much salty lox?
What’s with the ultra-Orthodox?
Though overwhelmingly devout,
With sex they cannot do without.
Aroused, some secretly carouse
And violate their marriage vows.
While outwardly they pious seem,
The tenth commandment they blaspheme.
Too frequently, it must be said,
“The neighbors wife” gets coveted,
And dalliance is found more thrillin’
Than the act of layin’ tefillin.
Hasidic Jews become impure,
Confronted by the lure, amour.
CBS went undercover
These conditions to discover.
And what they saw, to their regret,
Was “dating,” via Internet —
(A method whereby one may find
Thrill-seekers carnally inclined.)
Despite the utterance of pray’rs,
These folks were seeking hot affairs.
By no means is this scene the norm,
But those involved should seek Reform!

Being "ultra" Orthodox, or anything else, does not guarantee moral perfection. (BTW, why never a reference to "ultra" Reform, or "ultra" secularists.) At its best, religion helps people prevent failings such as adultery. It also helps people, both sinner and victims, deal healthily with it. Torah takes adultery seriously, teaching us that it is as bad as murder. There is no excuse for adultery by observant Jews (or anyone else) but neither does the fact that observant Jews are, like all of us, imperfect, negate the value of observance or Orthodoxy. Sadly, some will conclude otherwise, ignoring all the bad acts prevented and good deeds accomplished because observance and Orthodoxy helped ordinary people. Our sages understood this, too, one reason that they considered it particularly reprehensible for Jews to behave in this way (adultery) and injurious to HaShem.

Ironically, it's a certain community in Long Island that consists of several towns but are lumped together -- which is known for its loose ways... between both friends and the household help or pool boys. What happened there -- when they had many opportunities to date and were not confined to "arranged marriages?" Tayveh is all over as long a one is alive pumping blood and is of human flesh.
