African Immigrants Trapped in No-Man’s Land
A group of African migrants have been trapped between the barrier fences on the Israeli-Egyptian border for the past five days.
Last Thursday, 21 Africans reached the border in the area north of Kadesh Barnea in an effort to infiltrate into Israel, but apparently were stymied by obstacles in the open areas between the two lines of border fences. As a result, the group was trapped between the fences, unable to return to Egypt or enter Israel.
Israel Defense Forces soldiers have been stationed to keep watch over the group, which according to the soldiers includes two women, one visibly pregnant. Since the group was noticed, they have not been given any food, only limited amounts of water.
The soldiers reported that they were ordered to give the migrants “as little water as possible.”
