YIVO Institute For Jewish Research Appoints First Kronhill Visiting Scholar

Stanford Historian Steven Zipperstein To Start in January

The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research has appointed Stanford University Jewish history scholar Steven Zipperstein as its first Jacob Kronhill visiting scholar, according to a press release issued today. Zipperstein is a professor in Jewish culture and history at Stanford University.

“We are delighted that Steven Zipperstein has accepted the position as our first Kronhill Scholar,” wrote YIVO executive director Jonathan Brent. “His stature, accomplishments and range of interests precisely match the ambitions of YIVO’s vision for the future.”

Zipperstein will begin the position in January and take up full-time residence in March. His duties will include a leading a seminar in Eastern European Jewish history, conducting professional development workshops for YIVO fellows and delivering public lectures. According to the press release, the position is funded by the Kronhill Pletka Foundation.
