We thought we knew you so well.

We thought you cared about the future of American Jewry, charity scandals and sex abuse. And you do. But it turns out that what our online readers really love are stories about blood, half-naked Israelis and Hasidic haircuts.

We wrote hundreds of news articles in 2013. A few drew tsunamis of web traffic. Some of those didn’t seem so important to us, our online readers told us they were!

We’ve come up with the 13 big Jewish stories of 2013. We’ve divided them up between the four that got the most traffic online and the nine that we at the Forward thought mattered most.

The Jewish Daily Forward welcomes reader comments in order to promote thoughtful discussion on issues of importance to the Jewish community. In the interest of maintaining a civil forum, The Jewish Daily Forwardrequires that all commenters be appropriately respectful toward our writers, other commenters and the subjects of the articles. Vigorous debate and reasoned critique are welcome; name-calling and personal invective are not. While we generally do not seek to edit or actively moderate comments, our spam filter prevents most links and certain key words from being posted and The Jewish Daily Forward reserves the right to remove comments for any reason.
