Afikomen Costumes
If any part of the Seder needs an upgrade, it’s the afikomen hunt. So much fuss over a broken cracker wrapped in a wine-stained napkin — really, people, we can do better. This year, give your afikomen the snazzy outfit it deserves with these fabulous afikomen costumes. Choose straightforward camouflage or a more elaborate disguise. Your afikomen has never looked so good — or so mysterious. Best of all, the costumes allow you to conceal the afikomen in plain sight, eliminating the possibility that overzealous guests will overturn the couches and coffee tables like they did last year. They also make great hostess gifts.
You will need:
13” x 27” piece of fabric (camouflage or solid)
Needle and thread
1 yard ribbon or cord
Disguises, such as Groucho nose-and-glasses or sunglasses (optional)
Glue (optional)
| 1. | Fold fabric in half with right sides facing in. Sew sides, stopping 2 1/2 inches from the top, then continue sewing for the last 1 1/2 inches (you’ll thread your cord through the unsewn inch later). |
| 2. | Fold down top 1 1/2 inches down and stitch cuff in place. Turn bag right-side out and pull a ribbon or cord through top to make a drawstring. |
| 3. | If you like, stitch or glue on more disguises. |
