Kerry’s Stepson: ‘Misquoted on Israel’
John Kerry’s stepson said he was misquoted in a story that said he regarded Israel as the “51st state” of America. Chris Heinz was quoted in Philadelphia Magazine as saying, “One of the things I’ve noticed is the Israel lobby, the treatment of Israel as the 51st state, sort of a swing state.”
The quote became an issue late in the campaign, and celebrity lawyer Alan Dershowitz, who supports the Democratic Massachusetts senator in his presidential bid, was battered with questions about it in a conference call for Jewish voters Monday night. Heinz said he believes that Israel’s security is important to America.
