Ruach She’ainah Meztuyah

in a small spot where shadows once fell
from towers
a modest succah quietly rises
and descends in a space
of just over one week

the builder expects that it will come down

no climate control
no alarm system
only comfort and security
of belief
in He who lovingly
commanded him
to live in it

The poet is a prosecutor and oral historian living in Staten Island.
