LUBAVITCHER VS. LUBAVITCHER: The leadership of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement has won a court battle for control of their main Crown Heights synagogue against their more messianically inclined brethren, The New York Jewish Week reports.

Also in the Jewish Week: Murdered Pakistani politician Benazir Bhutto had long maintained a close friendship with Jewish Democratic lobbyist and consultant Mark Siegel, and had recently met with Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Dan Gillerman.


HOCKEY-COACHING HASID: Brooklyn’s Jewish Press interviews Rabbi Mayer Schiller, who dresses like a Hasid, teaches at the Modern Orthodox bastion Yeshiva University, coached the school’s champion hockey team and got started on his journey toward Orthodox Judaism when reading non-Jewish conservative thinkers like Russell Kirk and William F. Buckley.


FIRST CLASS: The “trans-denominational” rabbinical school at Hebrew College in Newton, Mass., is getting set to ordain its first class of graduates, Boston’s Jewish Advocate reports.
