Rep Cohen: U.S. Needs Official Apology for Slavery, Segregation

A recent Politico post outlines separate efforts by Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen and Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback to get official apologies from the U.S. government for crimes committed against African-Americans and Native Americans, respectively.

Cohen’s efforts are interesting given the tough racial politics he faced during his 2006 campaign, when he beat out several black candidates to win the former seat of Harold Ford, Jr.
