Watch Frum March To Protest Sabbath-Violating Teens in Lakewood

Lakewood, New Jersey, is a bustling Haredi town organized around its grand yeshiva and dominated by strict rabbinic authority. So when a few rebellious teenagers took to hanging out by the lake on Sabbath afternoons — violating Sabbath rules by smoking and using their cellphones — the yeshiva’s head rabbis gathered dozens of men to march through as an act of protest and “to reinforce the sanctity of the Sabbath,” according to distributed beforehand calling for the march.
The event was apparently filmed by one of the teenagers, who can be heard saying to a friend, “Yo, this is going straight on Facebook!” Watch the incredible video:
The teenagers, some of whom are wearing kippahs, seem shocked and amused at the multitudes of singing intruders dressed in black. A girl can be heard mockingly joining in the song, which is a citation from Psalm 93: “Above the voices of many waters, the mighty breakers of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty.”
Seeing as the teenagers are members, albeit nonconforming, of the Lakewood religious community, the original flyer cautions: “Please be careful that all discussion with anyone should be strictly respectful.”
