Sunday Is Pickle Day!

This Sunday, October 4th, New York City’s Lower East Side will be a pickle-lover’s paradise. will take place on Orchard Street, paying homage to the days when pickle shops thrived in the neighborhood.

It’s going to be a celebration of all things pickled, with sixteen different pickle vendors in attendance, including Brooklyn Brine, Guss’ and The Pickle Guys, who have the last remaining pickle shop on Essex Street. You can also grab some grub from other food vendors, like Russ and Daughters, Blue Ribbon Sushi and The Meatball Shop. While most of us will be eating, home picklers will have the chance to show their stuff in the “home pickling contest.”

Pickle Day became an annual autumn event in the late 90s, and The Pickle Guys have been participating since. “We do other fairs and events, but this one is all about the pickles,” Pickle Guys owner Alan Kaufman told the Forward. “Pickle Day is our day, and everyone should be proud of their day.”

The pickle celebration begins at noon with live music playing throughout the day. Why not come try a pickle (or ten)?
