Experience Crown Heights’ Vibrant Kosher Food Scene At This Sunday’s Food Crawl

Food crawls are a great way for tourists and locals alike to experience a city or neighborhood’s unique subculture in all its gastronomic glory, especially in a vibrant foodie community like Chinatown or Little Italy.
Crown Heights has had a kosher-food revolution in recent years — with gourmet restaurants representing all kinds of flavors and cuisines popping up everywhere. This Sunday, kosher consumers and enthusiasts alike will get to enjoy the best of Crown Heights with “A Taste of Crown Heights,” a new kosher food tour.
The tour will include 20 local restaurants and cafés, each serving a “taste” of its signature dish (or, in some cases, signature beverage). While there, the group will rate each venue — the ratings will be tallied up at the end to award one restaurant the greatest “taste” in the food crawl’s “People’s Choice Awards.” And, because everyone wants to know an expert’s opinion, there will also be a panel of judges who will determine the winner of the crawl’s “Expert’s Choice Award.”
So participation in this food tour will mean getting the chance to spend a day with some of the most popular kosher foodies on social media, including Elan Kornblum of Great Kosher Restaurants Magazine, kosher blogger Dani Klein of Yeah That’s Kosher, Busy In Brooklynblogger Chanie Apfelbaum and private chef Naomi Nachman of The Aussie Gourmet.
Because this food crawl is kosher (no meat and dairy mixing here), the food will be either meat or pareve, so you’ll have to explore the best dairy options Crown Heights has to offer on another day.
But with 100% of the proceeds from each $54 ticket going to “Toys For Hospitalized Children” a charity under the auspices of the Chabad-run NCFJE (National Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Education), at least you’ll be doing some good as you spend the day gorging on the best kosher food in Crown Heights.
