Ivanka Trump’s husband may have spent the morning appearing in Congress to answer questions, but it was just another perfectly blissful day in the Kushner house.
This whole trip is basically a food lover’s paradise, but this morning’s adventure was a highlight. We began the day with a tour of Levinsky Market, a glorious strip of food stalls, guided by Gil Hovav, the wildly knowledgeable and entertaining Israeli food writer and TV host, who is a friend of the bride. (He was stopped along the way by several locals who approached asking to take selfies with him.)
Yesterday I arrived in Tel Aviv for a long-anticipated vacation that’s centered around a dear friend’s wedding. This morning, I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the day than to belly up to the bar of an open-air eatery in the Carmel Market called Shuk Shuka.
I wasn’t raised Jewish but I did marry a wonderful Jewish man. One of the big ways I try to connect to his Ashkenazi background is by exploring and reproducing the comfort foods that make him tick. (The day that my mother-in-law openly bragged about my kneidlach remains one of the proudest moments of my life.)
