A memorial service for famed Yiddish singer Adrienne Cooper is planned for Sunday, January 1 at Ansche Chesed in Manhattan at 12:00pm. The memorial will begin with a kriah, the ceremonial tearing or ripping of garments, and will celebrate the life of Cooper who died on December 25 at the age of 65.

Cooper, who is best remembered for her Yiddish concert performances and her promotion of Yiddish culture, was also known for her work with progressive Jewish groups including the Workmen’s Circle and Jews for Racial and Economic Justice.

Shiva services for Cooper have also been announced for Saturday, December 31 and will continue through Thursday, January 5. Individuals interested in participating may contact [Leah Koenig][3] for more information.
