Cab Driver Visits Grieving Relatives of Orthodox Family Killed in Hit-and-Run
The cabbie who was driving an Orthodox Jewish couple to the hospital when their car was struck by a hit-and-run driver reportedly met with relatives of the slain couple, the New York Post reported.
The family of Nachman and Raizy Glauber has been observing the Jewish mourning period since they died in the Sunday crash.
Relatives know the driver had nothing to do with the deadly crash. Their baby was delivered at the scene but also died a day later.
“They told him, ‘Go on with your life. This was meant to be. This is what God wanted,” said Fernando Mateo, head of a livery drivers association. “This is what our religion tells us. And you have no culpability in what happened.’”
Pedro Nunez Delacruz was driving Nachman and Raizy Glauber to a Brooklyn hospital pregnancy complication when a speeding driver slammed into their vehicle, cops said.
Career criminal Julio Acevedo, 44, turned himself in to police on Wednesday and will face a string of charges in the case.
Delacruz was hospitalized after the crash, and says he does not want to return to cab-driving.
