Koch Released from Hospital

We’re glad to hear that former New York mayor Ed Koch, 88, was released from the hospital this past weekend after a week-long stay. This was his third admittance to the hospital since September. True to form, Koch has said he isn’t planning to let this latest health crisis slow him down.

And in news about other New York mayors, current mayor Michael Bloomberg has given his alma mater Johns Hopkins University a $350 million gift, bringing his total donations to the school to over $1 billion.

Bethenny Frankel was so impressed with the results Katie Holmes got from the law firm of Aronson Mayefsky & Sloan that she’s decided to have them represent her in divorce proceedings against husband Jason Hoppy.

While hosting SNL this past weekend, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine showed off his many tattoos and joined Andy Samberg, Cameron Diaz and Jerry Seinfeld in a spoof of “The Voice.”

And since we are on the topic of Adam Levine, we encourage you to catch him on the cover of Men’s Health. He told the magazine that he puts a lot of thought into what he wears and prides himself on his unique style—to the point of his day basically being ruined if he goes out to lunch and sees another guy wearing the same t-shirt as he has on.

It sounds like J.J. Abrams is stoked to be directing the new Star Wars movie, and he has more to be excited about now that FOX has ordered a pilot for his new futuristic show about L.A. police officers paired with robotic partners.

Those of us inspired by Marissa Jaret Winokur’s recent loss of 60 lbs. will be interested in reading her blog entry about how her making exercise a priority helped her shed the weight.

Newly moustache-free Obama advisor David Axelrod is helping Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti with his reelection bid, and not everyone is happy about it. Monti’s opposition has released an attack ad against Axelrod, which oddly includes mention of Axl Rose. Is this a case of Guilt by association — not with Monti, but with a 1980s rocker with a similar sounding name?

And finally, Jonah Hill looked dapper and happy to be hanging once again with his 21 Jump Street co-star Channing Tatum. The two met up at the Producers Guild Awards last Saturday.

In this age of misinformation, our work is needed like never before. We report on the news that matters most to American Jews, driven by truth, not ideology.

At a time when newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall. That means for the first time in our 126-year history, Forward journalism is free to everyone, everywhere. With an ongoing war, rising antisemitism, and a flood of disinformation that may affect the upcoming election, we believe that free and open access to Jewish journalism is imperative.

Readers like you make it all possible. Right now, we’re in the middle of our Passover Pledge Drive and we need 500 people to step up and make a gift to sustain our trustworthy, independent journalism.

Make a gift of any size and become a Forward member today. You’ll support our mission to tell the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
