Enigmatic, husky-voiced, Nobel Prize-winning Bob Dylan is at it again, with a new album, “Triplicate,” arriving at the end of this month. In a newly-released single off that album, Dylan’s take on Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust,” the singer takes a hazy look back at a lost love.
(JTA) — Punk-rock singer Patti Smith was so nervous when performing a Bob Dylan song at the Nobel Prize ceremony that she forgot the lyrics to one of his songs.
In the latest installment of the Bob Dylan Nobel Prize Saga — which, we would note, gets less interesting as it gets more unnecessarily complex — the Nobel Foundation has announced Dylan is sending a speech to be read at the December 10 presentation of the Nobel Prizes in Stockholm. Like all Nobel laureates, Dylan will still have to deliver a Nobel lecture within six months of the banquet to receive the prize.
When Bob Dylan’s Nobel Prize for Literature announcement hit the waves, what immediately came to mind was my mother’s oft-repeated Yiddish assurance: “az men lebt-derlebt men” (if one lives long enough…. one lives —to experience being appreciated, rewarded…)
If Bob Dylan is at all excited about winning a Nobel prize in literature, he’s playing it very close to the vest.
