The Jewish Press advertisement for JONAH International, an organization dedicated to gay ‘conversion’ therapy, has sparked outrage on social media.
Inquiring readers have a treat waiting for them in the current issue of The Jewish Press, the Brooklyn-based weekly that’s hands-down the most widely read Jewish periodical in the Orthodox community. I’m speaking of a front-page article defending the cause of the Confederacy and attacking Abraham Lincoln as a bigot.
The Jewish Press, the nationally distributed, Brooklyn-based Orthodox weekly, can be counted on to lean pretty far to the right when it comes to both politics and religion. That’s why I was pleasantly surprised by a pair of remarkably progressive (by contemporary Orthodox standards) opinion articles on two hot-button religious controversies that were published last week by The Jewish Press.
As a regular reader of The Jewish Press, I would like to make a nomination for this year’s list: the editors of The Jewish Press, for their dogged criticism of Israeli policies and their staunch support of a settlement movement that, left unchecked, would likely lead to the demise of the Jewish state.
