Million Dollar Mattress
An Israeli woman has workers at landfill sites all over Tel Aviv desperately searching for an old mattress that she threw away, the Associated Press reports.
The woman, identified only as Anat, says the mattress is stuffed with nearly $1 million. She had surprised her mother with a new mattress, and tossed out the old one, but the real surprise came when Anat’s mother revealed that the old trashed mattress contained their life savings. When Anat ran outside to look for it, the mattress had already been carted off to the local dump.
At least three landfill sites in Tel Aviv have now been searched to no avail. The garbage dump’s manager, Yitzhak Borba, told Israel’s Army Radio that his staff was doing everything they could to help, including increasing security at the landfill sites to keep the would-be treasure hunters at bay.
Despite this obvious blow, Anat maintains a good attitude. She told the Associated Press that, “People have to take everything in proportion and thank God for the good and the bad.”
