Universal Health Care … But For $500 A Year?
The New York Times is touting a a new poll that shows “a majority of Amerians say the federal government should guarantee health insurance to every American … and are willing to pay higher taxes to do it.”
The price they are willing to pay? For half of the respondents, not $500 more in taxes per year.
Several mid-level insurance plans offered in New York City cost over $400 per month for a single person and well over $1,100 per month for family coverage.
While the Times story played up the division between those that favor a federally-run system and those who don’t, it would see that making the math compute remains an exceptionally large stumbling block.
