… But he did call Sharpton…
After Rev. Al Sharpton issued an open letter yesterday that accused Sen. Lieberman of race-baiting over the reverend’s campaign appearances with opponent Ned Lamont, the Lieberman camp didn’t seem inclined towards reconciliation.
“These are extreme and divisive attacks from one of the Ned Lamont’s closest advisors,” said Lieberman spokesperson Tammy Sun in an interview with the Forward. “Once again, Ned Lamont is demonstrating his lack of interest in providing voters with new ideas and instead offering only more of the same negativity. Ned Lamont is just not ready to be a U.S. Senator.”
According to the Sharpton’s letter, Lieberman called him personally before his endorsement of Lamont, and asked him not to support Lamont. Sun acknowledged that Lieberman had indeed made a call to Sharpton, but did not elaborate on the purpose of the call, which she described as being about “ten seconds” long.
