2017 Whitney Biennial Will Include Leilah Weinraub, Jo Baer, And More

On Thursday, the Whitney Museum of American Arts announced the roster of artists to be included in its 2017 Biennial, which will open on March 17th. The Biennial will include Jewish artists like filmmaker and Hood By Air CEO Leilah Weinraub, Jordan Wolfson, whose art includes works in video, sculpture, performance, photography, and installation, painters Jo Baer and Dana Schutz, and mixed media sculptor Jon Kessler.
Quoted in the New York Times, Whitney chief curator and deputy director for programs Scott Rothkopf commented that the Biennial would naturally reflect the United States’s tense, changing political climate. “The discourse turns to who we are as a nation,” he said.
2017’s Biennial will be the Whitney’s first since moving to its new location downtown. It will include works by 63 artists from across the country.
