‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ Wins Record 9 Olivier Awards

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” the two-part stage play that, premiering in London last summer, imagined an adult continuation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved series about teenage magicians, won a record-breaking nine Olivier Awards on April 9.
The Oliviers, which are presented annually, are Britain’s top theatrical awards.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” the development and production of which was spearheaded by producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callendar, took home the title of Best New Play. It also earned honors for its lighting, sound, set and costume design, laurels for director John Tiffany, and acting awards for Jamie Parker, who plays Harry Potter, Anthony Boyle, who plays Scorpius Malfoy, and Noma Dumezweni, who plays Hermione.
American audiences will have to wait to see if the play similarly sweeps the Tony Awards; it’s not anticipated to arrive on Broadway until spring 2018.
