State Dept. Retweets – And Then Deletes – Plug For Ivanka’s New Book

A State Department Twitter accounted posted and then quickly deleted a tweet from Ivanka Trump promoting her new book “Women Who Work.”

The agency’s Office of Global Women’s Issues briefly retweeted the post from Trump, in which the first daughter gushed about her sisters reading her memoir/self-help volume.

Trump, a White House special assistant, has tried to avoid the appearance of impropriety around the release and promotion of “Women Who Work,” announcing that she would cancel a book tour and donate the proceeds from sales to a foundation supporting female empowerment.

But she has nonetheless been using her social media account to drive media coverage and sales, an activity that could raise ethics concerns. The nascent Trump administration has already faced accusations of self-dealing and using power to advance the Trump family’s financial interests.

The administration has not yet fully staffed the Global Women’s Issues portfolio at the State Department – the office still lacks an appointed director.
