Jewish Groups Celebrate Queens Day in Albany

The Queens Chamber of Commerce participated in the Queens Day in Albany event on Monday, May 8th. Over 300 participants travelled to Albany to receive proclamations from both the Assembly and State Senate and meet with many of the elected officials from all the different areas comprising Queens and the other boroughs of New York.

The event, co-sponsored by the Chamber and Borough President Melinda Katz’s office, highlighted the economic development, tourism, business growth, infrastructure, transportation and innovations of the borough and it’s surrounding areas.

State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky proudly announced that Queens is “more than a ball park or an international airport arriving and leaving New York.” Assemblywoman Vivian Cook recalled her visit to Israel with fellow assembly members with pride and warmth. Cook said she proudly stands with her Jewish consistents and will continue to do so.

Among the attendees were Jewish representatives from Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office and from the Agudath Israel of America.

Business owners, residents and neighbors from the Rockaways, Forest Hills, Bayside, Flushing and Jamaica Estates discussed the issues of flooding, traffic jams and safety with over a dozen elected officials.

This event, the first of its kind, was the creation of Tom Grech of the Chamber, who hopes the event becomes an annual celebration of the accomplishments of Queens and discussion of the expansion and improvements of the borough.
