Richard Spencer’s Nonprofit Think Tank Broke The Law — Again

Richard Spencer’s white nationalist think tank violated Virginia not-for-profit laws, according to an investigation conducted by state authorities. The story was first reported in the Los Angeles Times.
Back in March, Spencer’s think tank, the National Policy Institute, lost its tax-exempt status after failing to file federal tax returns for three years. Following that, the group failed to register in the state and neglected to notify prospective donors it had lost its tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service.
Spencer, who has advocated for a “peaceful ethnic cleansing,” said he had no idea that the group was not in compliance. In some cases, “knowing violations of Virginia charitable law can be punishable as a misdemeanor, but Spencer does not appear to have been accused of any criminal wrongdoing,” according to the Times report.
Spencer said that he plans to restore the NPI’s tax-exempt status, though this could take months, if successful.
