US Holocaust Museum Reports ‘Mounting Evidence’ Of Genocide Against Rohingya

The U.S. Holocaust Museum says there is “mounting evidence” of genocide in Myanmar against Rohingya Muslims, the Guardian reported.

The Museum’s report follows a year-long investigation done in concert with Fortify Rights, a Southeast Asia rights group.

Culled from over 200 interviews with refugees and aid workers, the report details “unprecedented, widespread and systematic” killing of Rohingya by Myanmar soldiers.

“The crimes detailed in this report indicate a failure of the government of Myanmar as well as the international community to properly protect civilians from mass atrocities,” the report reads.

Over 600,000 Rohingya have been pushed out of their homes into Bangladesh to flee the violence. The true death toll is unknown, but investigators have put it in the thousands.

In May, the U.S. Holocaust Museum warned that conditions were ripe for genocide in Myanmar.
