Missouri AG Now Investigating Eric Greitens’ Veterans Charity
The Missouri attorney general has opened an investigation into MO Gov. Eric Greitens’ former charity, Talking Points Memo reported. Greitens was indicted last week on a felony invasion of privacy charge relating to a sexually explicit photograph he took of a woman with whom he was having an affair.
Greitens left the not-for-profit, The Mission Continues, in 2014, ahead of his gubernatorial campaign. The charity is a leadership center that provides support to U.S. veterans.
In the weeks before Greitens’ 2016 victory, the AP reported an overlap between the people who donated to the not-for-profit and those who donated to Greitens campaign. Greitens denied using the donor list from The Mission Continues for campaign fund-raising, which would have been a violation federal campaign finance laws.
After Missouri Democrats filed a complaint about the charity, Greitens’ campaign settled, admitted that they received a donor list from the charity and paid a $100 fine. In recent weeks, however, new information about the charity’s role in Greitens’ campaign have surfaced, leading the attorney general’s office to re-open an investigation.
