Representative Rashida Tlaib took her seat in the House in a red embroidered thobe on Thursday, becoming one of the first two Muslim women to do so. The support behind her and her traditional Palestinian robe was evident, with women around the country sharing photos of their own gowns.
A thobe, a long, hand-embroidered robe, is a meaningful garment for Palestinian women, as it tends to represent their native city. Following the hashtag #TweetYourThobe leads to a full timeline of vibrant thobes, accompanied by messages of pride.
