Kushner Set To Be Subpoenaed By House Democrats, Along With Other Mueller Witnesses
Jared Kushner and several other witnesses in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election are set to be subpoenaed by House Democrats, Politico reported.
The House Judiciary Committee will vote Thursday on whether to issue subpoenas from Kushner, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and nine other people who provided testimony to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation about Russian interference in the 2016 election and Donald Trump’s efforts to stop Mueller’s investigation.
One of those people is David Pecker, not a Trump campaign official but the head of American Media, Inc. In December 2018, Pecker admitted to working “in concert” with the Trump campaign to “catch and kill” the story of one of Trump’s alleged affairs in order to safeguard his presidential campaign. Pecker turned on Trump after years of being his close friend and protector in the tabloid world.
“As always, I remain open to reaching a reasonable accommodation and will not issue subpoenas if the information we are seeking is voluntarily provided. We will get answers one way or the other,” Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said in a statement.
Subpoena targets still working in the White House, like Kushner, are expected to fight the subpoenas. Former White House Counsel Don McGahn, slated to be subpoenaed Thursday, has already fought attempts to subpoena his testimony.
