Joshua Malina thanks Jewish Democrat phone bankers in Election Day Zoom

Jewish actor, Joshua Malina— known for his role in the popular television show, The West Wing— shared a message of encouragement and gratitude with volunteers from the Jewish Democratic Council of America in an Election Day Zoom call. The Zoom was meant as a “thank you” to the more than 4,000 people who volunteered as phone bankers for the JDCA during the 2020 election cycle. Volunteers made over 650,000 calls- 25,000 in the last three days alone- and sent over 466,000 text messages to American voters, according to JDCA Secretary and board member, Michael Rosenzweig.

“I learned about the kind of people who are phone banking in order to do exactly what West Wing posits: to try to make the country a more just and more equal place for the average citizen. On a personal level, thank you for making me believe again in the kind of service and volunteerism The West Wing always lauded,” Malina said.

Discussing his own Jewish upbringing, Malina said he feels there is a Jewish imperative to care about things like politics and improving the lives of others.

“I think it’s very clear which of these two candidates falls more in line with the central tenants of Judaism. The concept of tikkun olam- that we’re obligated to participate in the repairing of the world and in trying to leave society and the worl a at least a slightly better place than we found it. I think that candidate is Joe Biden.”
