Here Are Your Nominees For Best Vegan Restaurant Of 2018!
It’s that time of year again — it’s time for the Forward Food Awards, where we celebrate food as an essential part of Jewish life and ask you, our readers, to pick their favorite places to fress.
The nominees were chosen by Forward staff, but the choice of winners is entirely up to our readers.
The nominees for Best Vegan Restaurant are:
By Chloe
Vegans have finally made it to the golden age of dining. By Chloe, a vegan restaurant with outposts in both NY and LA (motto: Eat well. With purpose) offers a black bean, quinoa and sweet potato patty so big on flavor it makes you wonder why you ever bothered with meat.
Blossom Cafe
This isn’t just vegan food. This is vegan food for food lovers. If you’re looking for vegan interpretations of world famous culinary delights, look no further. Blossom Cafe’s Southern Seitan burger, heaped with avocado, romaine, caramelized onions, aioli and spiced seitan perched atop a ciabatta roll, will feel and taste just as good as the real thing, minus any of the guilt.
Peacefood
This cafe, founded with the belief that peace begins on your plate, offers delicious vegan fare created with mindfulness and gratitude. Its owners, Eric and Peter, believe the awareness of non-violence can be spread through feeding people with delicious vegan food. So have some vegan lasagna and start trying to save the world.
Beyond Sushi
Vegan and vegetarian sushi! Will wonders never cease? This restaurant pioneered the plant-based sushi movement and it’s still going strong. Who doesn’t want some cruelty free spicy mango sushi that’s as easy on the eyes as it is on your stomach? Beyond Sushi is changing the way we look at sushi, and changing the definition of sushi, to more than just tuna and nori.
Modern Love
This swanky vegan comfort food joint, owned by author and vegan-pleasure activist Isa Moskowitz, offers more than your standard meat free grub. From truffled poutine to brambleberry pie, this restaurant is all about treating yourself. These days, being an indulgent vegan eater is no longer an oxymoron, thanks to the trendsetting Modern Love.

I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward’s award-winning journalism this Passover.
In this age of misinformation, our work is needed like never before. We report on the news that matters most to American Jews, driven by truth, not ideology.
At a time when newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall. That means for the first time in our 126-year history, Forward journalism is free to everyone, everywhere. With an ongoing war, rising antisemitism, and a flood of disinformation that may affect the upcoming election, we believe that free and open access to Jewish journalism is imperative.
Readers like you make it all possible. Right now, we’re in the middle of our Passover Pledge Drive and we still need 300 people to step up and make a gift to sustain our trustworthy, independent journalism.
Make a gift of any size and become a Forward member today. You’ll support our mission to tell the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
