Links for Later: Lepenisation Edition

-What’s French far-right politician Marine Le Pen doing at Trump Tower? Drinking a warm beverage out of a paper cup like some kind of American? I believe this isn’t my first time introducing Sisterhood readers to a certain French word: lepénisation, a (real) word used to describe the influence of the far-right Le Pen family on politics. Marine’s presence probably has something to do with the impending lepenisation of America.

-Kara Brown critiques a tee shirt for white women who want the world to know that they’re not one of those other white women. Writes Brown: “I’ll tell you, as a black woman, seeing that shirt doesn’t necessarily tell me you’re an ally or worth trusting any more than the sanely-dressed white woman next to you.”

RIP the ACA.

-Artist Laurie Simmons, Lena Dunham’s mother, shares her beauty routine with Into the Gloss. I can pretend I wouldn’t click on that but I would, and did, and may have even clicked on one of her nail polish recommendations.

-Where was Sasha Obama during her dad’s farewell address to the nation? She had homework.

-Leslie Hsu Oh describes some advantages of “sitting the month” (zuo yue zi), a Chinese postpartum tradition that sounds a bit like a month-long Shabbat.

Phoebe Maltz Bovy edits the Sisterhood, and can be reached at bovy@forward.com. Her book, The Perils of “Privilege”, will be published by St. Martin’s Press in March 2017.
