Christ, Crist! Florida’s governor Charlie Crist is running as an independent candidate in the race for U.S. Senate. But instead of splitting up Republicans, his candidacy is “causing havoc among Democrats who are bickering about what needs to be done to stop conservative Republican Marco Rubio from getting to Washington.” (The Miami Herald)
“David vs. Goliath”: That’s what Ramona Oliver, a spokesperson for a new Democratic group built to retain the Democrats’ House majority, said when referring to the different parties’ fundraising efforts. Guess which one is David? Hint: the group, called America’s Families First Action Fund, hopes to raise $10 million, only one-fifth of what a similar GOP setup said it would spend. Cash Flow: Barack Obama has made secret funding an issue in this election cycle. But does anyone care? A MoveOn.org survey finds: Yes. Some 66% of voters are aware of the outside money funding the ads on their TV screens. 84% say they have a right to know where the cash is coming from. And they’re less likely to think a candidate funded by outside groups can improve the economy. (Washington Post Plum Line)
What Democrats? Democratic incumbent for Florida’s 22nd House district Ron Klein is campaigning not on his own record, nor that of his party, but on the views of his far-right opponent Allen West. Republicans are pinning their hopes on what happened with West in 2008. With Barack Obama atop the ticket, Klein ran what he calls a positive campaign against West — yet West, a retired Army lieutenant colonel still got 45 percent.” (Politico)
