On Social Media, Readers Slam Forward for Ivanka Kugel Post

The Forward is getting slammed on social media for posting a story about Ivanka Trump’s kugel.

On the Facebook group Pantsuit Nation NYC, a poster referred to the article as a “steaming pile of you know what.”

“Honestly, shame on the Forward,” one commenter wrote.

“It’s offensive in principle,” another wrote.

Readers argued that the post, headlined “Ivanka Trump’s Broccoli Kugel (for Real),” normalized the Trump family.

Some critics of Donald Trump say that soft-focus features about Trump and his family detract attention from the unprecedented nature of Donald Trump’s campaign and his presidency.

The Forward also included Ivanka Trump in its annual Forward 50 list of influential Jews.

The blog post on Trump’s kugel said that the recipes on her site, IvankaTrump.com, are “surprisingly haimish.” The author, Forward food editor Liza Schoenfein, wrote that she was “morbidly fascinated” by Trump’s website.

“The Forward should be ashamed of themselves,” one commenter wrote. “As a newspaper that is supposedly progressive, publishing a recipe by Ivanka Trump is the most disgusting form of pandering.”

Other readers were disgusted by other aspects of the story.

“Broccoli. Mayonnaise. Hello, this ‘kugel’ recipe can only be filed under: SHANDA,” Marilyn Naron wrote on Twitter.

On Friday,December 2, the Forward reported that the broccoli kugel recipe was lifted from an earlier recipe by the popular cookbook author Jamie Geller.
