The Inbal Pinto Dance Company of Tel Aviv brings its newest production, “Oyster,” to New York’s Joyce Theater for its American premiere, followed by a stop in Miami before a European tour.
Inspired by Tim Burton’s “The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy,” a short tale of a mollusk-boy whose parents can’t cope with his brininess, the Inbal Pinto’s 12-member troupe takes this flight of fantasy into the world of the surreal. Dancers metamorphize — transforming into human marionettes, for example — while merging the innocence of child’s play with the grotesque in a blend of acrobatics, mime, modern dance and ballet choreographed by Inbal Pinto and set to an eclectic range of sounds arranged by director Avshalom Pollak.
