Four Members of Orthodox Patrol Unit Shot in Brooklyn

Four members of an Orthodox volunteer patrol were shot Thursday night in Brooklyn.

The members of the Brooklyn South Shomrim Patrol were shot by a man they had been following for several days, ever since they found him leering at young girls and fondling himself in his car, they told the New York Times.

New York Police Commission Raymond Kelly confirmed that the shooter has an extensive criminal record.

None of the wounds are life threatening, although one man was shot in the abdomen and another in the neck.

The injured patrol members include two bakers, a dry cleaner, and an insurance salesman.

The Shomrim have been patrolling Hassidic neighborhoods in Brooklyn for more than 20 years. They are unarmed, but work closely with local police.
