IDF Strikes Hamas Targets After Gaza Rocket Attack

Israel’s Air Force struck two Hamas military posts in Gaza in retaliation for a rocket fired from the coastal strip at southern Israel.

The rocket fired from Gaza on Sunday night, which caused sirens to sound in several southern Israeli communities, landed in an open area, causing no injuries, according to the Israel Defense Forces. The retaliatory strike came early the next morning.

Twenty-one rockets fired from Gaza have hit Israeli territory this year, according to the IDF, the last on Nov. 23.

The IDF said in a statement that it “holds Hamas responsible and accountable for all attacks emanating from the Gaza Strip.”

Hamas on Sunday called for the release of prisoners held in Israeli jails in exchange for information on Israeli soldiers Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin, who were declared killed in action during the 2014 war in Gaza.

Their remains are believed to be held by Hamas, though Hamas has claimed that Shaul is alive.
