An Equal Investment
Finally someone has put into simple, plain language the reasoning I myself have come to in support of the immediate declaration and recognition of a Palestinian state. As Jay Michaelson himself says, my thinking arises not out of a desire to destroy or abandon Israel, but rather out of a love for the land and the people, and the country itself, which is, because of its current trajectory, trapped in a no-win situation that is poisoning its soul and leading it to a disastrous point of increasing international condemnation and political and economic isolation. A successful peace process — one that truly addresses the issues that have been on numerous negotiating tables — can take place only when the parties involved are legitimately recognized entities that have an equal investment in negotiating a just and equitable solution to the issues that divide them and that are killing their respective peoples.
