I’m engaged to a non-Jewish black man and my parents have given us their blessings, but are nevertheless insisting that we go for pre-marital counseling to deal with our interfaith issues. (I’m sure interracial issues too, but they haven’t said that out loud.) Here’s the thing they don’t understand: we’re fine! I know that in their generation this was a really big deal and they can’t imagine feeling prepared for such a life. But they raised me well, as did my fiance’s parent’s raise him well, and as such we’ve got the confidence and communication skills to deal with this.
Seesaw, I feel like I am bound to offend somewhere here. Don’t do the counseling and offend my parents. Do it, or at least suggest it, and offend my man. What should I do?
