Each week The Arty Semite connects the Torah reading — however tenuously — with a classic work of rock ‘n’ roll.
In this week’s parsha, Ki Tavo, the Israelites are commanded to bring their first fruits to the Temple and present them along with a recitation (which is also used as the basic text of the Passover Haggadah).
The rest of the parsha is dedicated to graphic descriptions of the rewards and punishments for keeping — or not keeping — the covenant with God. A large part of the reward is God’s promise to provide timely and abundant rains.
