Lebanon Makes It Official – ‘Wonder Woman’ Banned From Theaters

It’s official – ‘Wonder Woman’ has been banned from the big screen in Lebanon because lead actress Gal Gadot is Israeli .

The ministry of economy announced Monday that it was considering a ban but the official ban wasn’t passed until Wednesday afternoon, mere hours before the film was supposed to premiere. The ban comes in response to protests across the country, coming down especially hard from anti-Israeli activist groups like the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel-Lebanon.

The group pointed to Gadot’s Israeli citizenship and her service in the Israeli army – mandatory for all Israeli citizens – as grounds for the film’s ban. Gadot hasn’t shied away from talking about her Israeli pride and support for the country’s troops in the past.

If you’re not currently in Lebanon, you can catch ‘Wonder Woman’ in theaters this Friday. If you’re in Lebanon, I can’t help you.
