Brisket for breakfast is coming to Einstein’s — but it’s not your bubbe’s recipe

Have you been longing for a taste of the Passover seder on your daily commute?

Probably not. That would be super weird. But you now have the chance to assuage this non-existent craving thanks to Einstein Bros’ Bagels, which recently debuted a brisket-for-breakfast sandwich.

Although Einstein’s aims to imitate your local appetizing store, this brisket isn’t exactly the kind with which you’re used to retelling the story of Exodus. Rather, it’s Texas smoked brisket — a different dish entirely.

“If you’ve never experienced brisket with eggs, there is a first time for everything,” said Chad Thompson, who’s in charge of culinary innovation at Einstein’s, in a press release. He added that the Colorado-based chain’s “slow-smoked brisket” is a good option for “meat lovers looking for a hearty breakfast.”

So far, Texan food writers seem unconvinced that Einstein’s will be able to replicate their state’s signature food. Judging from the total carnage that ensues when Jewish moms have to taste the inferior brisket of other Jewish moms, it looks like this breakfast sandwich may also cause controversy at your local JCC.

At the Schmooze, we’ve never encountered a brisket we didn’t like, and we’d happily bite into this one. But maybe not on a weekday — based on our energy levels and mental state at the end of a seder, we don’t think we’d be able to handle our inbox afterwards.
