CEO & Executive VP

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, headquartered in New York City, is the world’s foremost Jewish relief organization. Founded in 1914 to ensure that funds donated to Jewish settlers in Palestine by American Jewish organizations were distributed effectively, the organization has since branched out, supporting disadvantaged Jewish communities worldwide, particularly in post-Soviet states. It now operates in more than 70 countries, many of which are home to struggling and diminishing Jewish populations. The JDC has also donated millions of dollars of relief to victims of natural disaster and political conflict.

In January 2013, Alan Gill became CEO of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, after being involved with the organization for 20 years prior. During Gill’s tenure as executive director of international relations, the organization’s revenue increased tenfold, raising the JDC’s annual budget to $350 million dollars. In this capacity, he also oversaw the establishment of new programs and the expansion of preexisting ones.
