The Jewish Community Centers Association of North America is an umbrella organization of Jewish recreational centers and social and cultural programs. It includes more than 350 Jewish Community Centers, Young Men’s-Women’s Hebrew Associations, and campsites. The movement began with the establishment of the first Young Men’s Hebrew Association in Baltimore in 1854, with a mission of providing Jewish immigrants to the United States with services and cultural centers. Throughout the late 19th century and 20th century, YMHAs were critical in supporting immigrants in adapting to their new homes.

Stephen Arnoff is the CEO of the JCC Association. Previously he served as executive director of New York City’s 14th Street Y, where he led the institution’s evolution into one of the fastest-growing anchors for Jewish communal life in North America. During his six-year tenure he oversaw tripling of the size of the Y’s core programs, dramatic increases in fundraising, renovation of all essential facilities and the founding of LABA: A Laboratory for New Jewish Culture. He graduated magna cum laude from Brandeis University and received his doctorate in midrash and scriptural interpretation from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Prior to his professional Jewish career, Arnoff spent nearly a decade as a professional musician performing and recording solo and in bands.
