How many people attend a regular Shabbat service?
Friday, if no Bar Mitzvah or special event, averages 15-25; Saturday if no Bar Mitzvah or special speaker, averages 35-75. With a special event or Bar/Bat Mitzvah, attendance can be up to 550-600 attendees.
Length of typical Shabbat morning service?
Friday night about 1 hour; Shabbat morning about 2.5 hrs
Shabbat dress code:
Women should cover their shoulders and midrift, but otherwise pretty informal. Most men do not wear ties on an ordinary Shabbat morning.
Does your synagogue have its own building? If not, where do you meet for services?
Yes, we have our own building.
Is there an opportunity to socialize after services?
Yes, we have Kiddush lunch every week, and we also do the Motzi and Kiddush on Friday nights in our atrium to promote socialization.
Language of service:
Friday nights 2/3 or more in Hebrew. Shabbat mornings, between 50% and 75% in Hebrew.
Is another language offered in the prayer book?
We have a transliteration available into English.
Yes, we have age appropriate services once per month for each of tots, K-2, 3-5 and a learner’s minyan for grade 6. We have periodic grade services on Friday nights throughout the year and do a tot dinner and “service” 2-3 Fridays per year.
Accessibility for people with disabilities:
We have handicap accessible ramps to access the building and the bima. Our chairs are not set and can be moved to accommodate disabled participants in services.
Are services streamed online?
No live streaming.
Are the rabbi’s sermons available online?
Sermons are sent out on the Rabbi’s blog and also posted to our website.
Percentage of members in interfaith marriages?
Will the rabbi officiate at an interfaith wedding? Will he/she attend one?
No and no.
Are there distinct roles for men and women in your synagogue?
No gender differentiation. Women can read Torah, lead davening, etc.
